    AFC-705 Biocide Compound

Biocide Composition – The active ingredients combined and stabilized to produce the AFC-705 biocides are EPA registered and approved with certified effectiveness. The combination and stabilization of these compounds have produced a single complex that is synergistic in function, producing with a more pronounced effect than the individual compounds. It is highly resistant to hydrolysis and is therefore very stable. The combination of this biocide compound has created a broad spectrum, long lasting biocide, effective over a wide pH range.

pH Range and Hydrolysis – The effectiveness and stability of a biocide is determined by the pH of the water to which it is exposed. It determines the rate of hydrolysis, while resistance to hydrolysis determines the pH range in which the biocide is able to operate effectively.

AFC-705 biocide is able to operate effectively even in conditions with pH of 9. At a pH of 5 or less AFC-705 biocide is stable indefinitely. At a pH of 7, the chemical half-life is still 220 days and at a pH of 9 it is 82 hours. This represents an increase over the individual biocide components in resistance to hydrolysis of greater than 200 times. These properties are made all the more effective by the shorter time required to achieve effective decontamination.

Time – When separated, one compound requires 8 hours to achieve a 100% kill while another requires 10 hours to achieve an 80% kill. Due to the synergism obtained when all the individual compounds are combined in the AFC-705 biocide complex, a 100% kill requires only two hours! This is 40 times faster than the maximum rate of hydrolysis that occurs at a pH of 9.

Biocidal properties – The effectiveness of AFC-705 biocide components in eliminating microbial activity is partially determined by the prolific rate of microbial growth. A concentration level of about 0.018 grams per gallon of treated fuel is sufficient to inhibit further microbial growth, even for the organisms that are hardest to kill.

Application – It is recommended to treat a fuel storage tank before refueling to allow for adequate agitation. The recommended treatment ratio is 1:5000 (one oz. to 40-gallons of fuel).

AFC-705 is effective on a wide variety of carbonoclastic micro-organisms.
